The A+ Arts Academy Social Studies Classes explore the world around them through intensive historical study, intellectually-stimulating field trips and thought-provoking projects. We strive yearly to give each student the tools they will need to be successful both in the classroom and in true-to-life application. We closely adhere to the Ohio Department of Education standards for social studies, and push students toward excellence while promoting a well rounded, global mindset.
Our Social Studies Course embarks on an enthralling journey of historical discovery and appreciation.
The journey begins as... 6th graders explore the origins of civilizations around the world. Students study the geography and economics of various countries, as well as the governmental and religious structures that contribute to the formation of so many distinct cultures.
The journey continues as our... 7th graders examine the circumstances that brought Europeans to the Americas and led to the founding of the United States of America. Students are challenged to discuss the historical influences to the structure of the U.S. government as well as a comparative analysis to other hierarchs and bureaucracies around the world.
The journey ends with our... 8th graders engaging in a rigorous and comprehensive reflection of the previous topics covered in their journeys from 6th and 7th grade. This serves as the vehicle to propel them as they embark on an in-depth analysis of the United States from colonialism to reconstruction after the Civil War. They will use the knowledge of the past as tools to identify with current events and evolving global social issues. These practices will help our young generation better intellectualize and appreciate the struggles, failures, sacrifices, and successes that thrust America into the forefront of the 21st century, and reinforce critical concepts as students continue their transition into future high schools, colleges, and careers.
We enhance student learning with field trips to: Washington, DC, Chicago, the 2009 Inauguration, Cincinnati’s Underground Railroad Museum and Reds game, Baltimore, Paris, England, Greece, and Italy. We intend to stay with our tradition of exposing the students of A+ Arts Academy to the world, and we have many more learning trips planned for the future. Our goal is to let our students know that learning is not confined to the classroom; there is a fascinating world beyond Columbus, Ohio, and the pursuit of knowledge is the most rewarding journey one can take. |
